Atelier Pica Pica is a collective of three artists from Liège, Boris Magotteaux (1978), Manuel Falcata (1979) and Jerome Degive (1980). They’ve been working together since 1999 and took the name of Atelier Pica Pica in 2007.
Driven by the dynamic interactions between the trio and the city, they create a world that is both playful and injected with a polished aesthetic. If their work may seem simple, childlike at first, it soon reveals itself as being much more complex.
Indeed, their art is at the confluence of different mediums. They juggle photography, sculpture, painting and design with each medium influencing the other. This fluid transition from one medium to another is a characteristic of the collective.
Over time, they developed an alphabet of graphic elements of their own. It consists of simple geometric shapes and colors influenced both by art brut, architecture and unusual items discovered during their urban ballads. This pictorial personal language allows for complete aesthetic cohesion in their work despite the use of various mediums. In addition, certain elements such as wood and lacquer but also urban exploration and photography are recurrent themes in their works.

Atelier Pica Pica est un collectif composé de trois artistes liégeois, Boris Magotteaux (1978), Manuel Falcata (1979) et Jérôme Degive (1980). Ils travaillent ensemble depuis 1999 et ont pris le nom d’Atelier Pica Pica en 2007.
Portés par la dynamique des interactions entre le trio et la ville, ils créent un univers à la fois ludique et à l’esthétique léchée. Si leur travail peut sembler simple, voir enfantin au premier abord, il se révèle ensuite bien plus complexe.
En effet, leur art est à la confluence entre différents médiums. Ils jonglent à la fois avec la photographie, la sculpture, la peinture et le design. Chaque médium influençant l’autre. Ce passage fluide d’un médium à un autre est caractéristique du collectif.
Au fil du temps, ils ont élaboré un alphabet d’éléments graphiques qui leur est propre. Il se compose de formes géométriques et de couleurs simples, influencées à la fois par l’art brut, l’architecture et les éléments insolites découverts au cours de leurs ballades urbaines. Ce langage pictural personnel permet une totale cohésion esthétique au sein de leur travail malgré l’exploitation de médiums divers. De plus, certains éléments tels que le bois et la laque mais aussi l’exploration urbaine et la photographie sont récurrents au sein de leurs œuvres.

Atelier Pica Pica is een collectief van drie kunstenaars uit Luik: Boris Magotteaux (1978), Manuel Falcata (1979) en Jerome Degive (1980). Ze werken al samen sinds 1999 en doen dat sinds 2007 onder de naam Atelier Pica Pica.
Ze worden geïnspireerd door hun dynamische interactie met de stad, en creëren een wereld die gekenmerkt wordt door een gepolijste ethiek, maar die ook voorzien is van een gezonde dosis scherts. Al mag hun werk dan simpel, zelfs kinderlijk lijken op het eerste zicht, al vlug wordt duidelijk dat er een veel complexere laag achter schuilgaat. Hun kunst wordt immers beïnvloed door het samenvloeien van verschillende media. Ze goochelen met fotografie, sculptuur, schilderkunst en design op een manier waarin elk medium het andere beïnvloedt. Deze vloeiende overgang van het ene medium naar het andere is een belangrijk kenmerk van hun collectief. Na een tijdje ontwikkelden ze een alfabet van hun eigen grafische elementen, dat bestaat uit simpele, geometrische vormen en kleuren die beïnvloed zijn door art brut, architectuur en ongewone objecten die ze ontdekten tijdens hun stadswandelingen. Hun picturale, persoonlijke taal zorgt voor een complete esthetische samenhang in hun werk, ondanks het gebruik van allerlei media. Daarenboven komen bepaalde elementen zoals hout en vernis vaak terug in hun werk, maar ook het ontdekken van de stad en fotografie zijn vaak voorkomende thema’s.
