Obsessions
The subject of the 7th chapter of the MIMA is the definition of “normality” in art.
“Obsessions” presents several hundred works by 23, mainly Belgian, artists, taking the form of drawings, sculptures, ceramics or in situ installations.
Whether gestural expressionist or meticulous introverted, humorous or sad, the singular universe of each artist seems to expand with each new production and element of a series. The works reveal an extraordinary application in the way they are executed, bordering on obsession. But does this mean that the artists nurture a pathological obsession with their creations? The answer can never be gleaned from the works themselves.

Le sujet du 7ème chapitre du MIMA est la définition de la “normalité” dans l’art.
“Obsessions” présente plusieurs centaines de travaux de 23 artistes, principalement belges, sous forme de dessins, sculptures, céramiques ou installations in situ.
Expressionniste gestuel ou introverti méticuleux, humoristique ou triste, l’univers singulier de chacun des artistes se dilate dans la production abondante et la série. Les travaux prouvent une application hors norme dans leurs exécutions qui confine à l’obsession. Les artistes sont-ils pour autant maladivement obsédés par leurs créations? Les œuvres ne le disent jamais.

Het onderwerp van het 7de MIMA-hoofdstuk is de definitie van “normaliteit” in de kunst.
“Obsessions” toont enkele honderden werken van voornamelijk Belgische kunstenaars: tekeningen, sculpturen, keramische objecten en ter plaatse gerealiseerde installaties.
Elke kunstenaar heeft zijn eigen wereld en uitdrukkingswijze – van grote gebaren tot introverte details, van vrolijk tot bedroefd. Samen vormen ze een rijke productie van losse of seriële objecten. De haast obsessieve uitvoering is bepaald buitengewoon te noemen. Zijn de kunstenaars ziekelijk geobsedeerd door hun creaties? De werken geven geen antwoord op deze vraag.
“Obsessions” is opgezet in samenwerking met La “S” Grand Atelier.
